Climbing gyms don't lack safety protocols.

They lack a safety net for human error.

Auto-belays have become standard in almost every climbing gym. They simplify the experience, open up access, allow solo sessions. But their widespread adoption has a cost: auto-belay accidents are rising.

Not because the equipment fails. Because human distraction is constant. An experienced climber can start a route without clipping in — one conversation, one notification, and the automatic gesture doesn't happen. This is a systemic problem. It requires a systemic solution: a dedicated auto-belay safety system.

BASS is a safety device developed by MBS Industry — founded in France by athletes Bassa and Micka Mawem alongside engineer Sébastien Kuehn. The unit connects to every auto-belay at the base of the wall.

What BASS does

  • If a climber starts a route unclipped, the system triggers an immediate 110dB audio and visual alarm
  • Detects a second climber entering an occupied lane — a leading cause of serious incidents even among experienced climbers.
  • Compatible with all auto-belay brands, like TRUBLUE and all wall profiles — no structural modification required.
  • Remote automatic updates. Every new feature deploys without on-site intervention.

More than safety: a management tool

BASS doesn't just protect — it informs. The online dashboard gives real-time visibility into lane usage, traffic history, and wear indicators per auto-belay. Anticipate maintenance before failure. Optimize route-opening based on actual activity.

A partnership built on shared vision.

Distributing BASS in North America completes what Lemur has been building since the beginning — spaces where climbing is a given. This distribution agreement didn't start as a commercial decision. Lemur and MBS Industry have been working together on CAMI — a motorized auto-belay that, paired with a Lemur or So iLL wall, allows climbers of all abilities to practice in full autonomy. The project is in active development, with orders already registered.

Your gym runs on auto-belays.

BASS keeps them safe.

Installation under half a day. No structural work. Compatible with every auto-belay on the market.
